Adding effects to Text
Adding effects to a text enhances the look and feel of the design. We shall discuss 2 of the most common and interesting effects that can be added to the text.
Drop Shadow :
- Select the text layer from the text window
- Right click on the "T" icon.
- Select "blending options" from the menu.
- Select "Drop Shadow" option for the blending options window Fig 2.5
- Try the options available in the blending options window till the time you get the right look for the text.

For the effect you see in Fig 2.6, the following are the settings:
Opacity : 75 %
Angle 127 Distance 9;
Spread 6; Size 5;
Contour: preset (cove-deep)
You can edit the contour settings by double clicking on the contour menu.

Drop Shadow Vs Inner Shadow
For effect where in you want the shadow effect on the text, You need to use inner shadow option. This option is specially useful when you want to have a carbon effect on your text. Fig 2.7 shows the text "My Company" with inner shadow & outer shadow effects ed together.
Glow :
- Select the text layer from the text window
- Right click on the "T" icon.
- Select "blending options" from the menu.
- Select "Outer Glow from the blending options window Fig 2.5
- You may also want try out the various options available under this menu to get the right look and feel for the text.
The following are the settings used to get the effect as shown in Fig 2.8
Opacity : 93
Noise: 0
Color: "#14056D"
Spread 0; Size 5;
Range 50
Jitter : 0

Emboss & Bevel
Emboss and Bevel are blending options available in Photoshop that are used to provide 3D effects for a given text.
- Select the text and right click on the "T" icon .
- Select blending options from the popmenu.
- Select the option Bevel and inner glow in the blending options window
You can try combination of various effects to achieve the required output

- Select "Inner Bevel" from the menu "Style" under the option Bevel.
- Make changes to the various options. Once all the options are set, window should look as seen in Fig 2.10.
- Select Emboss from the menu "Style" under the option Bevel.
- Make changes to the various options. Once the all the options are set, window should look as seen in Fig 2.11.
- As the changes are being made, Photoshop shows preview of the changes. If you are not able to see the changes simultaneously, Check the preview option present towards the right side of the window.

After you are satisfied with the effect, Apply the effects by clicking on the "Ok" button and return to the main window.
